Kalgoorlie Pest Control

Kalgoorlie pest control

At the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport station the year is dry from end to end, and its character comes from heat and cold rather than from rain.

The average year, 1991 to 2020, at the Bureau of Meteorology's Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport weather station, which stands for Kalgoorlie on this page, from SILO's records, which SILO completes with its own estimates for any day the station did not record. The termite seasons are the ones the Australian Museum names and the tick months are the ones the Australian Government’s health advice gives (both below); neither is read from the weather.

Little rain, and a wide swing of temperature

Rain arrives in small amounts all year, and no month is truly wet. The first three months stand a little apart, each averaging between 35 and 39 mm, while every other month sits lower, and September is the driest at 13 mm. From April to August the rain barely moves, each month within a few millimetres of the last.

July and January mark the two ends of Kalgoorlie's year. The average daily maximum climbs every month from 17.5°C in July to 33.9°C in January, then falls back every month to June. Winter nights are cold, with July's average minimum at 5.6°C, and summer days are hot.

A March that keeps its rain

Both seasons change fast at the station. Spring's days warm from an average maximum of 22.8°C in September to 29.5°C in November. Autumn starts from a March that still belongs with the wetter early months, wetter than any month of spring, and its days cool quickly after it. Over its three months spring is the drier of the two.

Pests and weather, from public sources

Termites

New colonies begin when winged termites leave the nest in a colonising flight. The Australian Museum says these flights happen in warm, humid weather, mostly in spring and autumn.

Cockroaches

The Better Health Channel says cockroaches do best where conditions are warm, humid and unhygienic.

Mosquitoes

“Mosquitoes need water to breed, and some mosquitoes can breed in very small amounts of water.”

NSW Health

Ticks

Ticks can be found in any month. The Australian Government’s health advice puts the usual tick season at July to December, and says it differs from place to place.

Who licenses pest work in Western Australia

In Western Australia, a commercial pest management business must be registered with the state’s Department of Health before it provides services. WA Department of Health

Treatments are done by pest management technicians or provisional technicians, and both must work for a registered business, their own or an employer’s. WA Department of Health

A provisional technician is still training for the full licence and is not allowed to work without supervision. HealthyWA (WA Department of Health)

After up to 30 working days of close, in-person supervision, an adult provisional technician may work under a licensed technician’s direction. HealthyWA (WA Department of Health)

Doing pest management work for others without a licence, or running a pest management business that is not registered, is an offence. WA Department of Health

Technicians licensed in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT or the Northern Territory, though not Queensland, may be eligible to work in Western Australia for a time under automatic mutual recognition, once they have notified the department and received its notice of registration. WA Department of Health

A technician’s licence card lists endorsements, which show the pesticide treatments the holder is qualified to carry out. HealthyWA (WA Department of Health)

HealthyWA suggests checking for the right endorsement before any work begins. HealthyWA (WA Department of Health)
